Abstract

Paripaadal is the only Sangha literature which is not a set of lessons. In this, the literature is based on Tirumal, Chevvel and Vaiyai. The poets Nallanthuvanar, Yugaperuvalhuthiyar, Kaduvan Ilaveinanar, Keeranthaiyar, Kunram Bhootanar, Kesavanar, Nappannanar, Nallachuthanar, Nallalusiyar, Nallethiyar, Nalvalhuthiyar, Maiodak Govanar have sung songs. The title “Akuriyam” has been taken in Paripaadal in order to reveal what instruments have been symbolized by the poets and to what extent all these instruments have added a bulwark to the leaders of the music or singing.
